I remember the Spot On snooker club from the first time around. I used to play snooker there every week. When Riley's took over, they decided to turn it into some sort of 'Sports Bar'. In my opinion this never worked and, whilst Riley's installed Sky Sports and a new darts area, they neglected the original concept of the club - that of a snooker hall, to the point that all of the snooker tables had worn-out baizes. Riley's also seriously neglected the maintenance of the building, especially the hygene of the toilet facilities.
It reached the point where I was reluctant to play snooker there anymore. But where else was there to go in Burton on Trent?
I'm pleased to see the original owners taking control once again and returning to the original 'Spot On' brand.
I've been playing snooker at Spot On since the beginning of this year (2016) and I have to say the surroundings and atmosphere are markedly improved, together with the cleanliness of the toilets. The staff are welcoming and friendly.
It's unfortunate, but I think the original owners have an uphill struggle to return the venue to its former glory after Riley's let it slip so badly. But I wish them the very best for the future. And I for one will definitely be playing snooker there on a regular basis again..
